- Price Costco: (wholesale store): SHARING FOOD WITH YOUR ROOMIES OR HAVE A LARGE
FAMILY, AND LIKELY TO NEED LOTS OF GROCERIES. Two blocks North from Rt 1 and Rode Island Avenue, next to Circuit City. (take Bus 86, Calverton going to the North, get off
at Rt 1 and Rode Island Avenue. walk two blocks to the North.) You have to be a member to be able to shop at Costco. $35 per year. You can look at the store and decide if you like by asking a guest pass for the day (free) at the information. Nice to visit just to take a look at the store: Experience the wholesale store. Great if you need lots of video tapes (Sony 8 mm tapes, 5 for $15. that's better than Staples. 180 min VHS tapes, 6 for $10.) Also nice
price for TVs or video players: their prices beat Circuit City.

Two bottles of 16 oz Opti Free's(contact lens salines) are $11 (16 oz.,
not 12 oz. that you see in CVS. CVS charge $7.20 for just ONE bottle
of 12 oz "Opti Free".)

- Thrift stores - you can get good stuff at really good prices.
- one on 193 in Langley Park
- a good one on Kenilworth Avenue, just after E/W Highway
- there are a bunch on New Hampshire (near University Blvd.)
- TERRAPIN TRADER; used office supplies such as desks, chairs, cabinets, and so on. eg. $35 for a steel desk, or $8.50 for a chair. Close to College Park Metro. Bldg, 383 Paint Branch Parkway, Collge Park. (301) 405-5267. They take only CREDIT CARDS.
- STAPLES: for lamps, desks and study desks. Across from the Beltway Plaza, Greenbelt. First thing you probably want to get hold of is a good desk, study chair, and lamps.
At Staples, Look for what you want in the store, and then order them through their catalogue. If you'd order merchandise through catalogue, they'll deliver them FREE to your apartment, on the next business day. They have great overhead lamps: starting $15, which is usually charged at least $25 elsewhere. They also have a good collection of desk lamps at very good prices, and study chairs at reasonable prices.
- VALUE CITY; for household; small items, such as laundry baskets, extra safety chains on your apartment door, etc... It's located at Beltway Plaza, Greenbelt. Small items could cost you a lot, since there are many small items you might need. Value City is a handy place for those small items, if you don't wanna pay too much for them.
- HECHT'S; moderately nice (quality-wise) but inexpensive towels, clothes, pants, yes, including levis. There are several Hecht's. The closest one is at the GP Plaza, but the one at the Metro Center has good collections in general (for example, Levis, size-wise). If you are buying lots of stuff, you might wanna open a Hecht's account: you get extra 5 percent off your entire purchase.
- TRUE VALUE (hardware store); need to do some interior adjustments ofr your apartments. It's located at Beltway Plaza, Greenbelt. The nice thing about True Value is that they can help you find what you need. They might be able to come to your apartment and install extra bolts, a peep hole, etc, for some extra charges.
- IKEA; located in Potomac Mills. Mall hours of operation: Monday-Saturday 10:00 am-9:30 pm sunday 11:00 am until 6:00 pm (703) 643-1770 (1800)-VA-MIllS.
- CEDAR FRESH HOME PRODUCTS; for storing clothes in a box. Get cedar merchandise: moss balls stink, and are not good for your health. Cedar balls / chips can be used over and over if you just "refresh" them with cider extracts. Cider extracts are available from: CEDAR FRESH HOME PRODUCTS, Norristown PA, Kinston, NC. (800) 763 9500.

- University Book Center; on-campus book store, located in Stamp Student Union. You can buy textbooks, linguistics books (a few, though), stationary, and Terrapin things.
- Maryland Book Exchange; closest to the campus. located on Baltimore Highway. You also can buy textbooks, linguistics books, stationary, and Terrapin things.
- Borders; located in White Flint Mall.11301 Rockville Pike Kensington. (301)816-1067. Any categories including linguistics books.

- Our department office; See Kathi to open a copying account. You will need 6 digit code. You must pay 10 cents each.
- Mail Boxes Etc.; located in Stamp Student Union. 5 cents each. If you purchase a 500 pre-paid copy card ($15), each copy costs you 3 cents.
- Copy Service office in Reckord Armory; 5 cents each.
- McKeldin Library Photocopy Center; if you get your student ID card activated as a debit copy card, and put some money into your card with a card dispenser machine, you can use any xerox machine in the library, which costs you 8 cents each. You can also xerox with cash, which is 10 cents each.
