Research
As a Baggett Fellow I am currently researching Island Phenomena cross-linguistically. This hooks up with Norbert Hornstein, Howard Lasnik and Juan Uriagereka's NSF Grant.Experiments testing extractability out of certain relative clauses, and possibly some speculation on what this could tell us about the whole syntax/information-structure question, are forthcoming.
I am also working on a project investigating Island phenomena in wh-in-situ languages with Brian Dillon and Shiti Malhotra.
Aside from Islands, my research interests include Ellipsis, Economy, Cross-linguistic variation in argument structure and the organization of the lexicon. Online sentence processing is also a topic that I've begun to wonder about.
My undergraduate thesis, supervised by Sam Epstein at the U of Michigan, was on compound-/serial-verb constructions, with specific focus on such constructions in Hindi-Urdu (and Japanese).
